The film was developed following the success of the critically-acclaimed, award-winning book The American Nurse: Photographs and Interviews by Carolyn Jones, released in 2012.
On May 8, during National Nurses Week, THE AMERICAN NURSE will simultaneously have its New York premiere screening and will open in 21 theaters in eight states nationwide. The New York premiere on Thursday, May 8 will be held at 7:00 PM at Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas in Manhattan, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers (including director Carolyn Jones and producer Lisa Frank) and cast (the five remarkable nurses featured in the film).
Additional Manhattan screenings will be held on May 12, 14, & 15 at 8:00 PM at Cinema Village. In New Jersey, the film will open on May 8 at Digiplex Destinations theaters in Cranford and Sparta.

“At some point in our life each of us will encounter a nurse, whether it be as a patient or as a loved one,” said filmmaker and photographer Carolyn Jones, director of THE AMERICAN NURSE. “And that one encounter can mean the difference between suffering and peace; between chaos and order. Nurses matter.”
